
Lizards Defeat Boston

This past Thursday May 27th, the Lizards defeated the Boston Cannons 13-11 at LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University. Lizards' Goalie Drew Adams won Bud Light MVP player of the game honors with 14 saves.
The Lizards came out of the gates strong, with Anthony Muscarella scoring on the first offensive possession. Boston would then get on the board, but the Lizards would score the next two goals, including a spectacular one by Greg Gurenlian. The teams would trade goals and finish the first quarter tied 3-3. In the second quarter, the Lizards once again opened up the scoring, this time a 2 point goal by Chris Fiore. Boston cut the score to 6-4, but the Lizards continued to control the play and frustrate the Cannons. Stephen Peyser finished the first half scoring for the home team and the Lizards took an 8-4 lead into the half.
The third quarter saw the Cannons continued to get outplayed and frustrated by the Lizards. Long Island scored 45 seconds into the quarter and would score the next two goals to take an 11-4 lead into the fourth quarter. The Cannons showed some life in the fourth quarter as they cut the Lizards lead to 11-7. Sloppy play from the Cannons returned and the Lizards capitalized scoring the next 2 goals to take a 13-7 lead with 5:38 remaining. The Cannons put on one last run with three straight goals, but the charge fell short as the Lizards would take the victory 13-11.
