New York Lizards News Release

The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse selected eight players in the 2003 MLL Supplemental Draft held on Wednesday. The Lizards held the fifth pick in each of the rounds. The Lizards' first selection was midfielder Jason Coffman, a 1996 graduate of Salisbury, where he was named Team MVP in 1995. Coffman scored 97 goals at Carthage High School in 1992, the second highest all-time mark.

The Lizards also drafted Rob Coscia, an All-American from CW Post, as well as former Hofstra star midfielders Steve McTigue, Adam Hananel and Joe Barile. The Lizards spent their final three picks on Justin Shaberly, a midfielder from Johns Hopkins, Bob Errante, a defenseman from NYIT, and Kelly Bixler, a goaltender from CW Post.

The Supplemental Draft is independent of the 2003 MLL Collegiate draft that takes place in a couple of months. To be considered for selection in the Supplemental, players needed to apply for instatement into the MLL Player Pool. In all, teams had approximately 200 players to choose from.

The supplemental draft picks will have their chance to impress coaches at Lizards training camp in May, in hopes of cracking a roster spot. MLL rosters must be cut to 23-men this season.

The Lizards travel to Homewood Field on May 31st, in an opening-night rematch of the 2002 Championship game against the Baltimore Bayhawks. The Lizards home opener is on Friday, June 6th, at Mitchel Field. Season tickets are available now for only $80, and may be purchased at any Lacrosse Unlimited Location or by calling 631-582-2500 x10.
