The Long Island Lizards added midfielders Kevin Brennan and Joe Kostolowski on Thursday, at the 2003 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, in Haverford, PA. The Lizards selected fifth overall in each of the five rounds of the draft, but traded their first three draft picks earlier this year. With their fourth round draft pick (23rd overall), the Lizards selected Duke graduate Kevin Brennan. The Farmingdale native scored 24 goals and added 15 assists in his Senior season with the Blue Devils. The Lizards used their fifth round draft pick (29th overall) to draft Hofstra star Joe Kostolowski. Kostolowski led the Pride in scoring with 29 goals and 21 assists in his Senior season. Joe is from Corning, NY. Long Island's first three draft picks did not go to waste; The Lizards traded their first round pick (5th overall) to New Jersey in a trade that sent All-Star Jay Jalbert and Chris Massey to Long Island. Veteran defenseman Brian Voelker was acquired from Boston for the Lizards second round pick (11th overall), as well as a 2004 draft pick, while Long Island's third round pick (17th overall) was traded to Rochester as part of the Casey Powell trade, which brought starting goaltender Brian Dougherty, faceoff specialist Chris Cercy, and midfielder Conor Denihan to Long Island. The Long Island Lizards begin their 2003 season at Homewood Field on Saturday, May 31st, in a Championship Game rematch against the Baltimore Bayhawks. The Lizards home opener is on Friday, June 6th, 6:00 PM at Mitchel Field against the Rochester Rattlers.
