New York Lizards News Release

With the 2013 Major League Lacrosse season officially completed, the New York Lizards have already begun looking towards next season.

The Lizards made big changes during the off-season this year, starting with the rebranding from the Long Island Lizards to the New York Lizards in December. When the collegiate draft came around in early January, the Lizards made huge moves, trading draft picks for Denver attackman Mark Matthews, and Hamilton defenseman and midfielder Steve Waldeck and David Earl. Later in the off-season, a trade brought long-time Lizard Stephen Berger back to New York, in exchange for attackman Ryan Young heading down to Charlotte.

The busy off-season had everyone ready to watch the Lizards make a run at their third Steinfeld Cup, and a season opening win against the Boston Cannons looked to be the start of a successful season. Coming off an exciting win at home in week one, the Lizards traveled down to Chesapeake to take on the defending MLL Champion Bayhawks in week two. Despite holding Chesapeake's powerful offense to only nine points, the Lizard's offense was unable to score more than three points, leaving New York with a disappointing loss. The Lizards went on to secure two more wins in the first half of the season, a 14-8 victory over the Ohio Machine, and a 12-10 win over the Hamilton Nationals. After the all-star break, the Lizards played the final four games of the season, winning the season finale against the Ohio Machine at home, 14-11.
