Littell's Arm Propels Mariners

July 6, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

The Pulaski Mariners took the series opener from the Kingsport Mets 4-1. Mariners' starter Zack Littell turned in a gem of a pitching performance to lead Pulaski to victory.

Littell (2-2, 5.24 ERA) pitched seven innings of one-run ball, and fanned nine Kingsport batters. Sunday's performance lowered the right hander's ERA by almost two full points, and the nine strikeouts sets a new season high for Littell.

Kingsport's only run came in the bottom of the fourth inning off a RBI single from catcher Jose Garcia. The hit was the first of two for Garcia.

The Mariners' four runs proved to be more than enough support for Littell. Shortstop Gianfranco Wawoe led Pulaski with three hits from the number nine spot and also scored one run. Wayne Taylor, Carlton Tanabe, and Yordi Calderon each contributed two hits apiece.

Pulaski's offensive showing was a total team effort. Five players had a hit, four different players scored a run, and three separate batters drove in one baserunner.

Trey Cochran-Gill (1-0, 0.00 ERA). finished off the Mets with a two inning save-his third save of the season.

The second game of the contest is set to begin at 7pm on Monday night. Rigoberto Garcia is set to make his Mariners debut on the mound, and he will oppose the Mets' Andrew Massie.
