Lights FC Kicks off Busy Week by Visiting Miami FC
April 23, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC played their first of three games in a seven day span by visiting Miami FC.
After only trailing for a total of 16 minutes between their first 5 official games of the year (4 regular season matches, plus the team's second round tilt in the US Open Cup), Las Vegas found themselves in a hole early in South Beach. Miami FC buried the ball in the back of the net twice in the first ten minutes of the game courtesy of Christian Sorto and Paco Craig.
Towards the end of the first half, referee Olvin Oliva called a penalty kick for the home side on a supposed hand-ball from Tyler Bagley. Claudio Repetto took advantage of the opportunity to give Miami a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break.
Former UNLV Rebels Soccer player and El Salvador Men's National Team member Joaquin Rivas was a second half sub for Miami FC and he capitalized on a Las Vegas miscue to put more padding on the score with the 4-0 coming in the 49th minute.
Lights FC avoided being shut out with Lucas Stauffer scoring in his second consecutive match.
With the 4-1 defeat, Lights FC is no longer undefeated in the USL Championship season. Only two teams haven't suffered a loss in league play six weeks in 2023: Sacramento and Charleston Battery.
NEXT GAME:
This Wednesday, Lights FC will play in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup by facing Real Salt Lake, this will mark the first time Las Vegas will play against a Major League Soccer team in an official game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cashman Field in Downtown Las Vegas. Tickets are on sale at LightsFC.com/Tickets
