Lights FC Hosts Monterey Bay in Only Home Game for Las Vegas in June
June 10, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC played their only home game in the month of June by facing Monterey Bay FC Union at Cashman Field.
In a first half that was mostly a battle to take over midfield, Monterey Bay exploded off of a throw in, where Morey Doner's speed left him one-on-one against Lights FC goalkeeper Leo Diaz and he put the ball past him to open the score in the 42nd minute.
It didn't take long in the second half for Las Vegas to equalize. In the 58th minute the home side had a corner kick executed perfectly by Justin Ingram that was sent to the back of the net with a header from Marcelo Lage, the tallest player in Lights FC history.
The Lights' aggressiveness wasn't rewarded after leveling the score, as multiple shots on goal and a rocket from Manu Ledesma hitting the crossbar were denied, leaving Las Vegas still hunting for their first home win of the 2023 USL Championship season.
Monterey Bay took advantage of a missed clearance from Andres Jimenez Aranzazu in the box and Sam Gleadle had no mercy scoring the game winning goal for the visiting squad by a final score of 2-1.
NEXT GAME:
Lights FC will have their next three matches on the road, kicking off with a battle in the borderland against El Paso Locomotive FC on Wednesday June 14th at 6 p.m. PT.
NEXT GAME:
The next match for the Lights' in Downtown Las Vegas will be on July 1st against Eastern Conference powerhouse Tampa Bay Rowdies, who have Lights FC's all-time leading scorer Cal Jennings in their roster. That will be the first of four consecutive games at Cashman Field for Las Vegas.
