Lightning Win Nail-Biting Season Opener

(KITCHENER, ON) - The Lightning started their 2022 season campaign with a hard fought for win over the home-town KW Titans in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Monday afternoon.

In their first action since March 11th, 2020, the Lightning and Titans played a back and forth game throughout most of the game. The Titans jumped out to an early lead over the Bolts, scoring a hot 38 points in the first 12 minutes of action. The Lightning were able to tighten up defensively in the second and held a narrow 56-55 lead heading into the halftime break.

Fans were treated to a series of runs by both teams as the final two frames saw the Bolts and Titans trade a number of leads with neither team able to really pull away. London held a four point lead with 13 seconds left before Joel Kindred hit an impressive three pointer to pull the Titans within one point with 3 seconds left. Jaylon Tate was able to seal the game at the line for the Lightning, earning them the 110-108 victory.

Cam Forte led all scorers with a monster double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds. Both Chris Jones and Jaylon Tate scored 24 and 23 points respectively while Terry Thomas (11 points), Amir Williams (11 points) and Mareik Isom (10 points) rounded out the scoring for the Bolts.

Kitchener-Waterloo was led by Joel Kindred's 24 points and Eric Ferguson's 23 points respectively. Chad Frazier (19 points) and Davon Dillard (17 points) also reached double-digits on the night.
