London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, Ontario) - Saturday night at Budweiser Gardens, in front of 7710 people, the London Lightning beat the Moncton Miracles 135-130.
It was the highest scoring game in the NBLC so far this season.
The win extends the Lightning's streak to eight games. London's record now stands at 11-2.
Nick Okorie had a season high 33 points to go along with seven three pointers (11 of 18 from the field).
Stephen Maxwell recorded a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
After the Miracles led by 11 in the first quarter, the rest of the game was neck and neck between the two teams.
The Miracles got into foul trouble in the fourth and Okorie hit five of his seven three pointers in the final frame as the Lightning began to pull away.
"Big time shots, by a big time player," said coach Kyle Julius. "We hadn't planned to play like that, but Moncton forces you into that style. They're fast. It takes you out of what you're used to doing."
"Once you get hot like that, you want the ball," said Okorie after the game. "At the same time I didn't want to call for it, that's out of my element."
Of the streak, Okorie said, "I don't even really think about it, I'm just playing, I just want to win."
The Lightning next host the Island Storm tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
Tomorrow's game is presented by Angelo's and the upper bowl will be open.
Tickets can be purchased through the Budweiser Gardens box office or online.
