London Lightning News Release
(London, ON) - The London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada announced Wednesday that Head Coach, Doug Plumb, will remain with the team after signing a one-year extension. Coach Plumb joins Michael Ray Richardson as just the second head coach in franchise history to be re-signed for a third season.
Plumb led the Lightning to a 20-4 regular season record and the franchise's fifth NBL Canada championship title during the 2022 season while setting the league record by going a perfect 12-0 at home.
"Lightning fans can expect some familiar and some new faces this year, but the style of basketball does not change. It takes what it takes to win year to year and that does not change.
We will play team first basketball, we will be tough, we will make extra efforts and we will be very versatile and in great shape. The Lightning look forward to the challenges of repeating this season as NBL Canada Champions." - Head Coach Doug Plumb.
After joining the Lightning as part of Kyle Julius championship coaching staff during the 2016- 17 season before signing as the team's head coach in 2019. In two years at the helm of the franchise, Plumb has amassed a league best 35-12 regular season record while boasting a perfect 6-0 record in the playoffs.
Coach Plumb and the Lightning open the season with a Championship Banner and Ring Ceremony January 19th against the visiting Sudbury Five. The Lightning will announce the remaining members of Coach Plumb's staff in the coming weeks leading up to training camp.
