London Lightning News Release
(ST. JOHN'S, NL) - The London Lightning complete the three game road sweep in Newfoundland, Saturday night, after defeating the Rogues 108-104 in overtime.
London started the game undermanned with Coach Plumb back at the hotel sick and Terry Thomas on the bench in street clothes after injuring himself in London's win over the Rogues the previous night. Associate Head Coach, Mike Provenzano, stepped in for Coach Plumb and led the Bolts to a hot start, scoring 33 first quarter points and 59 total in the half.
Despite London's hot start, the Rogues were able to battle back and narrow the Lightning lead to just five points behind the dynamic duo of Armani Chaney and Ron Artest III.
The absence of Terry Thomas would be felt in the second half as the Lightning and Rogues would trade baskets and leads throughout the third and fourth quarters, ending in a 104-104 stalemate, after London failed to take the lead on two last second chances.
Overtime was all London as they scored the only four points in the quarter, holding Newfoundland to zero points and winning the game to complete the sweep in St. John's.
London was led by Jordan Burns and his 37 points on the night, the most by a Bolt this season.
Forward Mareik Isom added a season-high of his own with 24 points while hitting 10-12 from the free-throw line. Antwon Lillard followed up his player of the game performance last game with 16 points and a team-high 8 rebounds while Mike Edwards added 11 on the night.
Dynamic scoring guard Armani Chaney led all scorers with 41 in the game, going 7-9 from deep and adding 6 assists. Ron Artest II (15 points), Jacorie Archie (14 points), Brandon Johnson (12 points) and Canadian Daniel Gordon (11 points) all scored in double figures for the hometown Rogues.
London returns home to the Budweiser Gardens to take on the visiting Windsor Express this Wednesday, February 1st.
