Lexie Laing, Among Game's Most Complete Players, Returns to the Boston Pride

Boston - The Boston Pride have re-signed forward Lexie Laing, who coach Paul Mara calls "one of the best two-way players in the game." Laing, the 12th overall selection in the 2017 NWHL Draft out of Harvard, joins Christina Putigna as the first players signed by the Pride for the 2020-21 season.
"My coaches and teammates with the Pride created a great atmosphere and made every day at the rink worthwhile," said Laing. "Boston really does have the greatest sports fans. It shows every time we have a game, so playing in front of a packed crowd really motivated my return."
In 24 regular season games in her All-Star rookie season, Laing scored 12 goals and added 15 assists for 27 points. She finished third on the Pride in game-winning goals (3) and tied for fourth in points (27). Laing had 11 multi-point games, including three-point performances against Buffalo on Oct. 12 and Connecticut on Dec. 29. She was second in the league in faceoff percentage (61.12) behind Boston captain Jillian Dempsey. Laing led the league in penalty differential (+12), taking just two minor penalties of her own and drawing 14 penalties by opponents.
"Lexie is awesome in every aspect of the game," said Mara. "For comparison, I'd say that the great Patrice Bergeron is the Lexie Laing of the Bruins."
Laing spent five years at Harvard, redshirting the 2017-18 season. The forward finished her career with 91 points (33-58-91) in 130 games. She led Harvard in scoring in her final two seasons. As a freshman, Laing was an ECAC All-Rookie Team selection and a finalist for ECAC Rookie of the Year, finishing her first season with 25 points (10-15-25).
While playing in the NWHL, Laing is in graduate school at Tufts, where she is earning a Masters in Animals and Public Policy.
