Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME â Lewiston MAINEiacs President, Mark Just announced today that there has been a re-organization of the Hockey Operations Department effective immediately. The MAINEiacs did not offer General Manager Normand Gosselin an extension on his contract to return for the 2004-2005 season. Furthermore, the Lewiston MAINEiacs will not be exercising their option for the 3rd year on the contract of Head Coach Mario Durocher.
"After considerable thought, I felt that the best interest of the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the long-term would be better served with a change of personnel in the Hockey Operations Department", stated Just. "This was a very difficult decision to make but in the big picture, I feel that the hockey operations department as it was this year was not the best fit for our franchise now that it is situated in Lewiston, Maine."
"As important as trying to ice the best possible product is our ability to build a strong community-based organization that has close ties with our fans. In short, we feel that we need to head in a slightly different direction to ensure that our team will end up where we expect it to be in the near future," commented Just.
The Lewiston MAINEiacs confirmed that they are currently in negotiations with a replacement, but are unable to divulge the name at the present time. "We have a verbal agreement with an exceptionally qualified individual to fill the role of Head Coach & General Manager. Over the next 10 days we will work to finalize an employment contract so that we are in a position to make a public announcement as soon as is possible", mentioned Just.
