Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs ended the 2010-11 regular season with lots of success on the road, picking up nine out of ten possible points in their final five tilts away from the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. This week in Moncton, the MAINEiacs continued that success on the road, winning both games at Moncton Coliseum to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Wildcats.

In game three on Tuesday, both clubs got off to electric starts, as the two sides combined for two goals on 30 shots. Early in the second period, Cameron Critchlow put the MAINEiacs ahead by one, which was a lead they maintained for about 15 minutes. Daniel Pettersson evened things up for the Wildcats with 3:36 remaining in the second, only to have Alex Zafiris respond with a power play goal 30 seconds later. Michael Chaput tacked on an insurance marker in the third period, as Lewiston picked up the 4-2 win. Nicholas Champion made 24 saves for the MAINEiacs, while Brandon Thibeau stopped 34 shots for Moncton.

Lewiston got off to a great start in game four, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Pierre-Olivier Morin and Kirill Kabanov. The visitors nearly made the margin three in the second, but a lunging save by Brandon Thibeau kept the score where it was. The Wildcats got one goal back in the middle frame on a power play goal by Allain Saulnier, before Devon MacAusland tied it in the third. Etienne Brodeur and Alex Saulnier exchanged goals later in the period, sending the contest into overtime. 8:49 into the extra session, Brodeur was the hero, netting his second of the game. Nicholas Champion turned aside 39 shots in the win, while Brandon Thibeau made 30 saves in the loss.

Game five between the MAINEiacs and Wildcats will take place on Friday night at 7:30 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, regardless of weather.

On Wednesday, Montreal picked up another two-goal win, doubling up the Mooseheads 4-2. Jeremy Gouchie led the series with seven points, while Louis Leblanc lit the lamp four times. #3 Quebec Remparts (4) vs. #14 Val-d'Or Foreurs (0)

After winning twice at home, Quebec went to Val-d'Or, where they blasted the Foreurs 9-0 in game three. Val-d'Or put forth a better effort in game four, but the Remparts finished off the series, coming out on top 5-2. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had a massive series, posting 15 points in the four games. Louis Domingue won all four games, shutting out the Foreurs in one of them.

#4 Drummondville Voltigeurs (4) vs. #13 Chicoutimi Sagueneens (0)

The Drummondville Voltigeurs have some of the best offensive talent in the league, and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens found that out quickly, as Drummondville lit the lamp 21 times in their four-game sweep. After a one-goal and five-goal win at Centre Marcel Dionne, the Voltigeurs headed to Chicoutimi for games three and four. Both games were close, but in the end, Drummondville's fire power was too much, as they held off the Sagueneens 6-4 and 5-4. Ondrej Palat's nine points and Sean Couturier's eight points led the way for the Voltigeurs.

#5 Gatineau Olympiques (3) vs. #12 Rimouski Oceanic (1)

The Gatineau Olympiques won a one-sided opening game against the Rimouski Oceanic, but the most recent three games have been significantly closer. Rimouski picked up a 7-4 win in game three, forcing the series to game five, which will take place in Gatineau on Friday. McGinn's seven points are currently the most in the series.

#6 Acadie-Bathurst Titan (0) vs. #11 Victoriaville Tigres (4)

The Victoriaville Tigres did what very few people thought they would do, as they defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in four straight games. After taking the first two games on the road, the Tigres returned home to Colisee Desjardins. Victoriaville took game three with a 6-3 victory over the Titan, setting the stage for game four. Acadie-Bathurst had a 3-2 lead in the third period, only to see Victoriaville tie the score with 10:10 to go, before Yannick Dube ended the series 7:34 into overtime. Goaltender David Honzik picked up his third assist of the series on the clinching goal, while also earning his fourth win of the series between the pipes. Philippe Maillet led the Tigres with nine points.
