Lewis Named SIFL Defensive Player Of The Year

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 23, 2009) - Acadiana Mudbugs defensive back Kimmee Lewis has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's defensive player of the year, it was announced today, July 23, 2009. Lewis recorded 12 interceptions in the first nine games of the season for the Mudbugs, who finished the regular season 6-5 and lost in overtime to Austin in the semifinals. He also led the team in tackles with 38. Acadiana's defense held their opponents to thirty points or under five times. Lewis, a product of Louisiana-Lafayette, also saw time on offense, catching 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Voting was conducted among SIFL coaches, team front offices, league staff and a composite fan vote. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players. In the fan vote, Lewis outdistanced Damien Huren and Sammy Knight of Louisiana and Houma's Derrick Patterson for defensive back of the year.

Lewis will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies at Monday's inaugural SIFL championship game in Lake Charles between the Louisiana Swashbucklers and Austin Turfcats. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
