Leverock Called up to Represent Bermudian National Football
March 21, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA - City Islanders FC 24-year-old defensemen Dante Leverock has been selected to represent the Bermudian National Team this week in a match against Cuba during the Caribbean Cup 2016 Qualifying Tournament.
This will not be Leverock's first stint at the international level. Last year he played with his native team in four FIFA World Cup Qualifiers for the 2018 contest. In those four games he has scored one goal.
Bermuda is in group three of the Caribbean Cup along with Cuba and French Guiana. Their first match of the tournament will be against Cuba on March 22. The tournament plays host to 21 teams who are vying for the CFU title along with qualification into the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He will be back with the Islanders in time for their first regular season game on March 26 against the Richmond Kickers.
Leverock has only played one season as an Islander but was a vital part of the club's defense and will be called upon again this year to step up in a backfield that will not have a lot of veteran leadership. In 2015 Leverock amassed 1700 minutes in 22 appearances for the Islanders while scoring three goals.
Even though last year was Leverock's first foray into professional soccer, it was not his first experience with playing in the city. In 2005, he traveled from Bermuda to be apart of the City Islands' Youth Academy under Dennis Clarke. After graduating from college in 2014 he played some time with the Baltimore Blast before signing with the Islanders Professional Team.
