New York/New Jersey Juggernaut News Release
Little Falls, NJ- In front of a packed stadium, the NY/NJ Juggernaut (32-17) defeated the first-place Texas Thunder (34-14) 5-3 in an exciting come-from-behind victory. Second baseman Carri Leto singled to left off of Texas reliever Christa Williams (11-6) with two outs in the sixth inning, scoring first baseman Gina Oaks to tie the game at three. Pinch runner Laura Harms then scored on an infield single by centerfielder Lauren Bauer to put the Juggernaut up for good.
Leto was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Bauer was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Williams took the loss for the Thunder, coming into the game in the fourth inning after Texas starter Peaches James walked Oaks to lead off the inning. Williams pitched three innings, giving up two earned runs on two hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. James pitched three innings as well, giving up two earned runs on three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
The Thunder jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the third inning when an error by shortstop Lyndsey Klein and a double by third baseman Clare Burnum would give Texas three runs. However, Juggernaut ace Amanda Scott (13-6) would not allow a hit or a run after the third inning, giving the Nauts a chance to bounce back. Scott pitched a complete game victory, giving up one earned run on five hits, no walks and two strikeouts.
The Nauts bounced right back in the bottom of the third against James when a fielder's choice off the bat of third baseman Jaclyn Pasquerella would score pinch runner Jen Smith to cut the Texas lead to 3-1. A defensive error by the Thunder in the sixth inning would also add an insurance run for the Juggernaut, finalizing the score at 5-3. Designated player Liz Bouck was the only Texas player with multiple hits on the night, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Juggernaut will resume the game that was suspended in Texas on July 25th at 5:30 pm tomorrow. Texas was up 6-0 in the fourth inning when the game was halted. The two teams will then play again at 7:35 pm.
