The Canton Legends of the Atlantic Indoor Football League have named Drew Spears as the team's assistant coach and Director of Player Personnel.
A member of the Class of 2003 from Glen Oak High School in Canton, Spears was a two-year starter for head coach Jack Rose and the Golden Eagles.
He was named All-Northeast Ohio and to the All-Federal League First Team and also played in the 2003 Canton Repository East-West All-Star Game.
Currently, Spears is an outside linebacker with the Walsh University Cavaliers, who are in line to win the Mid-States Football League championship and a berth in the 2005 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Playoffs.
A philosophy major, Spears has earned a place on the Dean's List with a 3.75 grade point average.
He has also worked for the past 2 1/2 years with the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
"I'm looking forward to brigning a championship professional team to Canton," said Spears. "Stark County (OH) is the mecca of the football world and, growing up here, I have learned to embrace the game with the same passion as the people of this community have."
"The only profession I've ever worked in is professional football and it's going to be exciting to bring an Atlantic Indoor Football League championship to Canton this year and for many years to come."
