Dodge City Legend News Release
DODGE CITYâThe Dodge City Legend of the United States Basketball League is co-sponsoring a Jackie Stiles Basketball Camp to be held at Dodge City High School on Saturday and Sunday March 1 and 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. The camp is also sponsored by Nike, Gibson's Pharmacy of Dodge City and Don Luallen Insurance, Inc. of Dodge City.
Stiles was the WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2001 with the Portland Fire after a standout collegiate career at Southwest Missouri State University. She led the Lady Bears to the NCAA Final Four in 2001, was a first team All-American selection and won the Wade Trophy as the college female athlete of the year in 2001.
Stiles was drafted in the second round of the United States Basketball League draft by the Legend in 2001, becoming one of a few women drafted by a men's pro basketball league. She became a Kansas legend when she became the state's all time leading career scorer at Claflin High School. She was also named to the first team of numerous high school All-American teams.
The cost of the camp is $95.00 for the two-day camp and is for boys and girls in third grade through eighth grade. Younger or older players must receive permission before registering.
"I'm proud that the Legend could be a part of bringing Jackie back to Dodge City." Legend General Manager Tom Nelson said. "She gives hope to every Western Kansas kid who thinks that they can't make it to the big time because of where they grew up.
For more information about the camp, contact Coach Chuck Williams at (417) 836-4878, or stop by the Legend office, Gibson's Pharmacy or Don Luallen Insurance to pick up a brochure.
