Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks continued their hot play Friday night in front of a sell-out crowd in Modesto. While their offense led to a win in the first game of the series, it was the pitching of Leandro Cespedes that sparked the JetHawks Friday night. The right-hander bounced back from a rocky outing to surrender only one run over eight innings. Meanwhile, T.J. Steele matched his career high with four RBI as the JetHawks beat the Nuts 5-2. Lancaster has now won three straight games.

Both starters pitched well early and the game was tied 1-1 going into the sixth inning. J.B. Shuck and Gabriel Suarez opened with singles. That set up Steele, who drilled a triple to center field to bring home bother runners. Jon Fixler followed that hit with a double to drive in Steel and put Lancaster ahead 4-1.

That would be all Cespedes would need. Cespedes pitched eight innings for the first time in his pro career, allowing only one run while scattering six hits and striking out five.

Steele added another run-scoring triple in the eighth inning and drove in a career-best four runs for the second time this season. Jon Gaston had two hits to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games while Suarez singled twice.

The JetHawks will try to get their first four-game winning streak of the season when they play the Nuts Saturday night. Chad Wagler (3-1) will pitch for Lancaster against Nuts' hurler Joey Williamson (1-0). The game will begin at 7:05 with the Pre-Game Show kicking of the radio broadcast at 6:50 on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com. Making a special appearance as the guest on the Pre-Game Show will be Houston Astros General Manager Ed Wade.

The JetHawks return home to open the second half of the season with a three-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes beginning Thursday, June 25. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
