League Website Takes Hits
May 2, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release
Nashville, TN-When The National Women's Football League started three years ago, skeptics felt the sport would never draw an audience.
Now, with the league's website getting over 3.5 MILLION hits monthly, those skeptics are not only eating their words but more than likely becoming fans. "We have been tracking our hits every month," states Racheal Burton, NWFA VP Administration. "With the season kick off, we expected the numbers to be high. The website gained over 1 Million hits in one month! The numbers only reinforce the gaining popularity of the sport," adds Burton.
The NWFA season is in the 4th week. This weeks match ups include: Philadelphia Phoenix @ Maine Freeze, Rochester Raptors @ CT Crush, Chattanooga Locomotion @ Atlanta Leopards, Nashville Dream @ Knoxville Summit, Asheville Assault @ Alabama Renegades, Indiana Thunder @ Cleveland Fusion, Southwest Michigan Jaguars @ Toledo Spitfire, Pittsburgh Passion @ DC Divas, Columbus Flames @ Erie Illusion, Biloxi Herricanes @ Pensacola Power and Panama City Beach Rumble @ New Orleans Spice.
The NWFA is the largest full contact football league in the world for women. Twenty-nine teams are competing in the 2003 season with another 8 teams already licensed for the 2004 season. The new teams that have been granted licenses for 2004 include: Junction City Cavalry (KS), Shoals SmasHers (AL), Roanoke Revenge (VA), Evansville Express (IN). Denton Stampede (TX), Dallas Dragons (TX), Austin Outlaws (TX) and Wisconsin Riveters.
