League Suspends Goody

December 27, 2007 - SPHL (SPHL)
Richmond Renegades News Release

The SPHL today announced that Richmond Renegades forward, Mat Goody, has been suspended by the league for 12 games. In addition, Goody was fined an undisclosed amount and will be required to pay for any damages he caused at the Crown Coliseum.

The suspension is a result of Goody's reaction in the penalty box to a second fighting major he received during the Christmas day game in Fayetteville. Goody had fought FireAntz enforcer, Chad Wilcox twice and after the second fight Goody tried to take down the penalty box glass in order to throw a helmet at Wilcox. He tossed the helmet and hit one of the minor officials in the time keeper's box. The official was hit in the face and required stitches to close the cut.

Goody sat out last night's game against Twin Cities. He will be eligible to return January 26th.

RENEGADES ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN

The Richmond Renegades today acquired defenseman Clay Lewis off waivers from Twin Cities. Lewis had been on I.R. after taking a hard slapshot to his ankle. When he came off I.R. he became the 19th player for TC and needed to be waived.

At 6'4" and 240 lbs. Lewis becomes the 6th defenseman for the Renegades. He played 8 games for Twin Cities this season before his injury. He was a minus 1 and had 24 PIM's. He played his final college season at Buffalo State. Lewis is expected to be in uniform Friday night in Richmond.

RENEGADES PUT IN CLAIM FOR CROSS

The Richmond Renegades today filed a claim for former Renegades player Brett Cross. Cross was placed on waivers today by the Huntsville Havoc. In 8 games with the Havoc, Cross had 2 goals and 3 assists, was a plus 3 and had 40 PIM's. Cross was recently on the 30 day IR for a broken nose.

Other teams ahead of the Renegades can claim Cross prior to the noon, Friday deadline. If no other claims are filed, Cross once again becomes a Renegade.

The Renegades are home Friday and Saturday nights. Friday the team will retire the jersey of fan favorite Trevor Senn. The first 2,000 fans receive a poster of Trevor. It's 2-3-4 and More coupon night and Skate with the Players after the game. Saturday is Golden Corral Bam-Bam Night.
