League Stadium Damaged in Storm

Dubois County Bombers News Release

League Stadium, home of the Prospect League's Dubois County Bombers, sustained significant wind damage from the severe storms that passed through Huntingburg, IN last night just before midnight. The full extent of the damage isn't known yet, but most of the grandstand roof on the third base side was ripped off, and the right field wall was flattened.

General Manager of the Bombers, Gary Freymiller, released this statement: "We're not sure right now what the implications are. My initial thoughts are that this damage can be repaired before our home opener on June 2nd, but we will need to follow the lead of the City of Huntingburg regarding the repairs. We're going to move ahead with our normal plans, and if we need to make adjustments along the way, so be it. We're going to play our season as scheduled, and we hope and expect to be playing here in League Stadium. As far as we know, no one was injured here in the community, so we're very thankful for that."

League Stadium was originally built around 1890 (there's some debate amongst historians on the actual year) and was completely refurbished in 1991 for the filming of the movie "A League of Their Own" by Columbia Pictures. It has been a popular Southern Indiana tourist attraction since the filming of movie, along with Abraham Lincoln's Boyhood Home and Holiday World Theme Park.
