League Meetings Provide Changes For 2010 Season
Published on August 31, 2009 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League's Owners Meetings concluded this weekend after four days of productive discussions. Representatives from each of the IFL's teams met from Wednesday, August 26th thru Saturday, August 29th in Baltimore, Maryland to improve on topics ranging from officiating to expansion.
The meeting theme of "Focused on the Future" was featured early and often throughout the four days. A total of eight potential expansion cities were treated to a special session on Wednesday of the meetings to learn all the intangibles of beginning an expansion franchise. The very next day, the Richmond Revolution were accepted to begin play in the 2010 season, and the La Crosse Spartans were accepted on a conditional basis.
Plans were also discussed for growing the IFL as it moves forward to improve in areas of officiating, budgeting, scheduling, earning regular national television exposure and more. In addition, the owners decided on a small increase to the player's base pay.
"The meetings were a tremendous success, and I truly believe we are headed in a positive direction," stated IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio. "In the coming weeks and months we plan on putting the decisions we made into place, and work towards substantial improvements for the 2010 season."
Next up for the Indoor Football League will be the finalization of expansion efforts for the 2010 season, and releasing next seasons schedule in early November.
