Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has re-signed forward Kyle Hood for the 2011-12 Central Hockey League season.
Hood opened the 2010-11 season in Italy with pro club Milano appearing in three games while collecting two goals, six assists and six penalty minutes (PIM) before returning to Arizona.
The Osoyoos, British Columbia, native went on to lead the Sundogs in scoring for the second consecutive season recording career-highs in goals (15), assists (54) and points (69) in 62 games.
"Kyle has developed into a strong leader for our club," said Pietroniro. "He leads by example and consistently makes his teammates better. He has become a significant piece of our team's foundation and we're thrilled to have him back in a Sundogs uniform for the 2011-12 season."
Hood was tops in the CHL in power-play assists (33) and was recognized in the league's annual 'Best of the Best' poll finishing second in voting in the 'Most Underrated Player' category behind Odessa's Mike Ramsay.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward first led the Sundogs in scoring during the 2009-10 season totaling 56 points (14g/42a) in 63 contests.
Hood completed his first full season as a pro with Arizona in 2008-09 registering eight goals, 19 assists and 144 PIM while splitting time as a forward and defenseman. The dual-role player closed out his rookie campaign with 13 points (4g/9a) in his final 15 contests.
The 27-year-old first joined the Sundogs as an amateur for the 2008 playoffs after completing a four-year career at Ohio State University (NCAA), amassing four goals, two assists, 32 PIM and a plus-9 rating in 16 postseason appearances en route to the team's Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Championship.
Hood returns for his fourth season with the Sundogs and joins Tyler Butler and Luke Erickson as players under contract with Arizona for the 2011-12 season.
The Sundogs, hosts of the 2012 Central Hockey League All-Star Game, are set to open their sixth season of play beginning this October at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Season ticket packages start at less than $10 per game. For more information call (928) 759-6600 or visit www.arizonasundogs.com.
