New Jersey Ironmen News Release
Newark, N.J. (Friday, February 6, 2009) - After recovering from a fractured cheekbone that he suffered this past fall, New Jersey Ironmen goalkeeper Lé Clembo do Carmo will make his season debut in goal this Sunday when the Ironmen host the Chicago Storm at Prudential Center. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. for the match, and the first 3,000 fans to come through the gates will be treated to a free 2008-09 Ironmen Dancers Photo Card sponsored by Hell's Kitchen Lounge.
"With Leandro in goal, it is like having an extra player on the field because he is so good with his feet," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented about his Brazilian netminder. "Coming into the season, Leandro was supposed to be the starter, and we have missed him. We're glad to have him back."
Having the gifted Lé in goal for the Ironmen also raises the comfort level for the backline of the team, as evidenced in the words of defender Ryan Hall.
"Lé is very gifted with his feet," the Syracuse graduate stated. "It takes the pressure off of you as a defender when you know you can play a ball back to the goalkeeper. It makes our job a lot easier, and it gives us a chance to go forward on the attack."
The Ironmen hope that the return of Lé to the turf will be just the spark they need to right the ship on the season. After railing off a three-game winning streak in early January, the second-year side stumbled with three road losses to close out the month. The Ironmen will now play three of their next four contests at the friendly confines of Prudential Center, something that Namazi feels will help them get back on track.
"Anytime you play at home, it gives you the chance to feed off the energy of the crowd," the two-time Coach of the Year remarked. "With three of our next four at home, we hope to use that to our advantage and get back into the race for the championship."
Doors open Sunday at noon with kickoff occurring at 1:00 p.m. The first 3,000 fans to enter Prudential Center will be the lucky recipients of the 2008-09 Ironmen Dancers Photo Card sponsored by Hell's Kitchen Lounge. At the conclusion of the game, the dancers will be conducting a special autograph signing outside of the Ice Lounge on the main concourse.
Sunday will also be a special day for the Ironmen as the organization will be celebrating the birthday of their team mascot, IronDog. As part of the celebration, IronDog is hosting some of his mascot buddies for a halftime game against the Ironmen Kids Club. Membership into the Ironmen Kids Club is only $29, and as a member, young fans will enjoy many exclusive perks such as a Kids Club t-shirt, membership card and special surprise gift. Additionally, they will receive two ($20) tickets for an Ironmen game, a personalized card on their birthday and a weekly email from the Ironmen. Any kids interested in joining the Ironmen Kids Club can do so today by calling 1-800-IRONMEN.
The New Jersey Ironmen are also partnering with the New York Titans of the National Lacrosse League this Sunday. Following the Ironmen match at 1:00, the Titans will host the Philadelphia Wings at 7:00 p.m., and Ironmen fans can see both games for only $20.
