Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (39-30) toppled the Gateway Grizzlies 8-2 on Friday Night, led by Nathan Lawson on the mound and Brett Blomquist at the plate.
Nathan Lawson drew the start for Florence, looking to rebound from his last outing on the road and replicate his start against Gateway in June. The WKU alum was masterful, keeping Gateway off balance all night. Lawson delivered Florence's first complete game of the season, allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits with seven punchouts.
Florence got on the board in the third inning when Brett Blomquist connected for a solo shot off the scoreboard to take a 1-0 lead. Blomquist wasn't satisfied and delivered another solo homer in the sixth, his 12th of the season, to start the inning and make it 7-0. The 2026 All-Star finished the night 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
The Y'alls big inning came in the fifth when they scored five runs on three hits and three walks to take a 6-0 lead. Florence received RBI hits from Hank Zeisler and Milo Rushford, while Garrett Broussard drew a bases-loaded walk and Marcus Brodil grounded an RBI fielder's choice.
After Blomquist's second homer of the day, Florence would add one more on an RBI single from Broussard to make it 8-0. Lawson's only two runs came in the eighth and ninth on an error at first and a sacrifice fly. With the 8-2 win, Florence has officially won the 12-game season series with the Grizzlies, currently leading seven games to two.
Florence and Gateway return for a Country Night doubleheader on Saturday at Thomas More Stadium. Florence's pitchers for both games are TBA, and Gateway will send RHP Gage Vailes for one game, while the other remains TBA as well. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM, and gates open at 4 PM.
