Law Play for Season Sweep against Omaha Beef
May 2, 2014 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL)
Dodge City Law News Release
On Saturday, the Dodge City Law (5-3) will host the Omaha Beef (3-4) at United Wireless Arena at 7:05 p.m.
The Law enter the game with hopes of securing their first ever three-game winning streak and a season sweep of the Beef.
For that to occur, Law Head Coach Sean Ponder said the offensive line will need to do a better job of protecting quarterback Josh Floyd.
"We've got some really good offensive linemen, but they haven't always played as well as they needed to," Ponder said. "The O-line has given up 20 sacks so far, which is way too high for us to accept. It's really important that we protect our quarterback and give him the time he needs to make things happen."
The Law defense currently ranks second in the CPIFL in multiple statistical categories including sacks by, scoring defense, total defense, and rushing defense.
Ponder believes that one of the keys for the Law defense is for the defensive line to be a disruptive force in the backfield.
"It's always important to put pressure on the other team's quarterback," Ponder said. "Our defensive line is ranked second in the league with 17 sacks. They have done a pretty good job all year of getting into the backfield and wreaking havoc on the offenses we have faced. We will need them to continue playing well on Saturday."
This week the defense will be tested by one of the most prolific and talented passers in the league. In just four games this season Omaha quarterback Chris Coffin has completed 90-of-144 passes for 925 yards and 26 touchdowns.
"Coffin has a lot of talent and he also has some really good receivers to throw to," Ponder said. "It will be important for our defense to stay focused, stay within our scheme, and play well for the whole sixty minutes."
