Law Face Winless Kansas Koyotes in Topeka

Dodge City Law News Release
On Saturday, the Dodge City Law will travel to Topeka to take on the Kansas Koyotes.
Kansas comes into the game without having won a game all season, but Law Head Coach Sean Ponder said that his team is not taking the game lightly.
"The Koyotes haven't won a game yet, but that doesn't mean they can't win," Ponder said. "Over the course of the year they have gotten better with each game. We have to stay focused and play at the level we are capable of so that their first win doesn't come against us."
One of the keys to the game for the Law is for the offensive line to protect the quarterback and open holes for running backs D.D. Holyfield and Dominique Carson.
"Our offensive line struggled at times during the first part of the year," Ponder said. "Last week they only gave up one sack and did a pretty good job of pass protection and run blocking. It will be important for them to play well again because Kansas has a few high-motor defensive linemen who are capable of getting into the backfield and being disruptive."
Defensively, the Law will need to improve upon how they defended against the pass in the Lincoln game.
"Against Lincoln we allowed the quarterback to throw four touchdowns to the same wide receiver," Ponder said. "We are capable of playing much better than that. We spent a lot of time this week watching film and talking about our mistakes. At this point, everyone knows what they did wrong last week and what they need to do this week to help our team get a win. It's just a matter of execution."
Though Ponder said his team is currently focused solely on Saturday's game, the prospect of a competitive playoff race looms in the distance.
"We are right in the middle of the pack in the standings," Ponder said, "but we can't allow ourselves to be distracted by how other teams are doing and we can't spend our time thinking about what will or won't happen later on in the season. We are taking it one game at a time and focusing on one opponent at a time."
