Laredo Law News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Law have been assigned wide receiver- linebacker Andra Johnson. Johnson, a 6'4" 240-pound San Antonio native, played last season in arenafootball2 with Rochester. The Laredo Law 2004 af2 season begins April 3rd, with the home opener set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)-726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.
Johnson played two years of college football at Texas A&M Commerce, an NCAA Division II school in Commerce, Texas, from 1996-97. He started at tight end and wide receiver for two years and was an honorable mention Lone Star Conference selection his final year.
"Last year was an adjustment learning the indoor game," said Johnson. "I went to camp with Cape Fear and then got traded to Rochester just prior to the season opener and stepped right into the starting lineup. I was thrown right into the fire."
Johnson started all 16 games for Rochester last year. He had 59 catches for 489 yards and seven touchdowns. On defense he chipped in 45 tackles and had two interceptions.
Johnson played for Converse Judson High School in San Antonio in the early 90's. He was an honorable mention All-District selection at tight end as a senior. Johnson already knows one of his current Law teammates.
"Tracho Rachel, a defensive specialist for the Law, is a good friend of mine," said Johnson. "He is a very good all around athlete. That was one of the big factors of my coming to Laredo. I know the intensity that Tracho brings and that we'll be working towards the same goal."
Johnson, age 29, studied Health & Kinesiology at Texas A&M Commerce. He needs six more hours to complete his degree. He is married to his wife Adrienne and they have three children; four-year old twins, a boy and a girl, and a 10-year old daughter.
"I liked his game on tape and his size," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "His experience is a plus. He catches the ball well and runs good routes. Plus anytime you can sign a player who is living close to home it's good for the team and for him. He can have friends and family travel down and watch him play."
Johnson will be present and available for comment at the tryout for the Laredo Law this Sunday at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the workout set for 10 a.m. Registration fee is $40 cash or money orders only accepted. Participants should bring their own workout gear.
SPECIAL NOTES The Laredo Law is having an informational meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Laredo Entertainment Center in meeting room five for all parties interested in serving as off field officials for the Laredo Law.
