Lauer Earns Inaugural Week Honors
June 3, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The first game of the season is when most players are still working out the kinks and finding their rhythm.
Darren Lauer proved last Thursday that he is in mid-season form, and the Texas Collegiate League responded accordingly. On Monday, Lauer was named the Dinger Bat TCL Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Lauer spun six shutout innings against the Texas Marshals, allowing just two hits en route to a 4-1 victory. He faced just one batter over the minimum, walking none and striking out six.
Of course, this isn't the New Hope, Pa., native's first foray into summer collegiate ball. In 2012, he played for the Quakertown Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate League. He started and came out of the bullpen for the Blazers, striking out 24 in 35.2 innings pitched.
The Keystone College product started seven games and made a pair of relief appearances this spring. He went 5-1 with a 4.06 ERA, tossing a shutout and two complete games. He struck out 30 in 44.1 innings of work.
Lauer shared the honor with Garrett Harris of the Brazos Valley Bombers.
The newly-minted Pitcher of the Week and his Pump Jacks teammates host the Woodlands Strykers Tuesday night in the 2014 home opener. The Jacks are offering all of their Twitter and Instagram followers free tickets for Opening Night, too! Fans can follow the Pump Jacks on Twitter or Instagram, then e-mail their name, address, phone number, and social media name to contest@pumpjacksbaseball.com, and they'll receive a pair of free tickets for the opener.

The Pump Jacks complete their series with the Strykers on Wednesday before taking another road trip to face the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Jacks will play a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday to make up for Sunday's rainout, followed by the regularly-scheduled contest on Friday.
