Latendresse and Tremblay win QMJHL player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, March 13, 2006 (QMJHL) - Forward Olivier Latendresse of the Val-d'Or Foreurs and goaltender David Tremblay of the Gatineau Olympiques were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from March 6th to 12th, 2006.
In three games, Latendresse scored four goals, including one game-winner, and notched seven assists, while being involved in 11 of the team's 17 goals (64,7%). He had the best showing of his career last Tuesday, scoring two goals and assisting on five others in a 9-3 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Then, on Friday, he scored his 40th goal of the season to go along with two helpers in a 9-6 loss to the Cataractes. The Foreurs winger is third in the QMJHL scoring race with 123 points in 68 contests.
Alexandre Demers (4-5-9) of Drummondville, Thomas Beauregard (2-6-8) of Acadie-Bathurst and Philippe Dupuis (1-7-8) of Moncton were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to David Tremblay. In three games, the Gatineau goaltender collected three wins, while maintaining a 1.30 goals-against-average and a .955 save percentage. Last Wednesday, he backstopped his team to a 4-2 victory, making 26 saves to earn his twenty-fifth win of the season. Two days later, he shunned all three Huskies players in the shootout to earn first star honours in a 2-1 victory. Finally yesterday, Tremblay blocked 29 shots in a 4-1 win over Victoriaville. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Olympiques, who are now only one point behind Rouyn-Noranda in the Western division standings.
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defensemen Nathan Welton (0-0-4) and Keith Yandle (2-4-6) of Moncton and Maxime Aubut (0-0-5) of Drummondville.
