Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release

MIAMI -- Miami Morays quarterback Derrick Vickers' 8-yard run with 10 seconds remaining lifted the host Morays to a 58-53 victory over the Daytona Beach in a battle for first place in the National Indoor Football League's Atlantic South Division Sunday afternoon.

Despite a season-high six passes from Oscar Davenport, the Hawgs (5-2) fell a half-game behind the Morays (5-1) and had their five-game winning streak snapped.

Davenport, who finished 15 of 26 for 151 yards and also rushed for a touchdown, connected with Robert Bailey on a 20-yard touchdown, and Tim Viens' point-after gave Daytona Beach a 53-52 lead with 40 seconds remaining. The score came just 17 seconds after Miami took its first lead of the second half when Kevin Jackson intercepted Davenport and returned it 20 yards to make it a 52-46 Miami lead.

Daytona Beach took a 26-25 halftime lead when Nick Allison registered his league-leading ninth interception to give the Hawgs one more play, and Davenport connected with Joe Giddens on a 22-yard score as time expired.

Micah Simmons upped the Hawgs' lead to 33-25 with a 46-yard fumble return on the Morays' opening drive of the second half.

Robert Bailey finished with a career-high four touchdown passes in his seven-catch, 79-yard effort. Tarion Hubbard, activated when Lucas Greene was unable to attend due to a family emergency, caught four passes for 24 yards, and Erie Williams had three catches for 26 yards and a score.

Brad Lee was held to a season-low eight yards rushing. Defensively, John Bowman added to his league sack-lead with two, giving hime nine for the season.

For Miami, Vickers threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 51 yards and scoring three times.

The Hawgs and Morays rematch Saturday night at TUI Business Machines Field at the Ocean Center. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
