August 10, 2011 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC: The Charlotte Eagles hosted the Harrisburg City Islanders on Wednesday night; the Eagles last home game of 2011. For the Eagles, a win would mean a playoff berth, for the City Islanders it means catching the first place Rochester Rhinos.

After 87 minutes of play Harrisburg's Jose Angulo scored the lone goal, giving the City Islanders the 1-0 win. The Charlotte Eagles playoff future will be determined on Friday night in Charleston.

A very calculated start by both teams, understanding the pressure of the match, neither team wanted to make the first mistake.

The first twenty minutes was an even match up, with both The Eagles and the City Islanders sharing possession, without much pressure in either box.

The first real chance of the night came in the 22nd minute as Chris Salvaggione played a great through ball into Sallieu Bundu. Bundu's touch was a good one, but right at Harrisburg's keeper.

In the 29th minute Jason Pelletier had a rocket of a shot from 25 yards out. Eric Reed was able to snatch it out of the air keeping the game at 0-0.

Bundu was awarded a caution in the 34th minute after an intentional hand ball in Harrisburg's box.

40 minutes into the game, it continued to be a stand-off in the midfield. Both Reed and Harrison kept their teams in the game, up to this point, by making a couple good save each. Neither offense really applied pressure to truly test the keepers.

A stalemate, at the half, kept both teams at a 0-0 draw.

Harrisburg came out strong in the second half putting a scare to Charlotte in the second minute of play. The Eagles' defense was able to stand their ground and finally clear the ball from the box.

Reed came up huge in the 53rd minute making a diving save to the far post after Brian Ombiji blasted a ball on target.

Darren Toby had a great opportunity, in the 75th minute, in the box bouncing it off the crossbar. Harrisburg with their counterattack beat the Eagles' defense could not keep the ball on target, as the shot was just wide.

With 15 minutes left, the game began to open up. The Eagles' pressure became much more apparent.

Harrisburg did everything they could to keep the ball out of their net.

In the 87th minute Angulo found the back of the net beating Reed, after a Harrisburg counter. The Eagles were not able to answer. Harrisburg won the game 1-0.
