Duluth Huskies News Release
Duluth, Minn. - The Bismarck Larks came into Duluth to take on the Huskies in the first game of a two game set.
Joseph Kalafut got the start for the Larks, while one of the best pitchers in the Northwoods league Jake Hamilton was on the bump for the Huskies.
Both starters were rolling early, but in the third inning the Huskies found themselves with the bases loaded and one gone. Devin Hurdle worked a walk for the first run of the inning, then two batters later Jared Mettam was hit by a pitch to bring in another.
In the top of the fourth the Larks responded. With two outs and the bases loaded, Enrique Morales drilled a single to tie the game at two.
Hamilton went four innings, while Kalafut went five. For the Huskies Isaac Rhode made his first appearance of the year pitching two scoreless frames. Nolan Lebamoff followed it up with two perfect frames of his own, then Jake Christianson had a 1-2-3 inning to close it out.
In the bottom of the seventh, Peyton Powell came up in a pinch hit appearance with two on and two out. He smacked a triple to left field to bring in both runners. The very next at bat saw Devin Hurdle hit an RBI single of his own. At the end of the 7th, the score was 5-2 in favor of Duluth.
In the next inning, the Huskies continued to pour it on. Eduardo Rosario kept his amazing season going with an RBI single that brought in Kristian Campbell. Two batters later, Jared Mettam hit a double to left field to bring in Rosario. The Huskies ended up winning this game by a score of 7-2.
The Huskies jumped the Loggers in the standings, but are still 2.5 games back from Eau Claire with only 10 days until the first half deadline.
The Huskies take on the Larks again tomorrow at 3:05PM CT. You can watch it on the Northwoods league website, or listen to it on mixlr.com/duluthhuskiesradio2022.
