
Late Effort Not Enough as Edge Fall in Lincoln

The Bloomington Edge had to fight back from a 26-0 deficit following the first quarter of play, but came up short falling 48-39 in Champions Professional Indoor Football League action Friday night in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Haymakers quarterback Blake Bolles would run for two scores of 6 and 8 yards while adding a 15 yard touchdown pass to Marquis Rolle to open up a 26-0 Haymaker run, before Darren Clark would break the ice for the Edge. Clark returned a 55-yard kickoff in the second quarter for the first Edge points and start an Edge push for the comeback.
With 45 seconds left in the first half, running back Andre Raymond found the end zone with a 3-yard touchdown run, cutting into the Haymaker lead 26-13. The Haymakers would drive down the field and allow kicker Benny Hanaphy to punch through a 31-yard field goal to go into half with the 29-13 lead.
In the second half the Edge would lean on the leg of kicker Eric Broughton who connected on two third quarter field goals from 48 and 23 yards, putting the Edge back at a 10-point deficit.
After taking over for Jim DuPage in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Andre Brown would fine Marcus Lewis for three fourth quarter scores, bringing the score as close as 42-39 after a 10-yard touchdown pass to Lewis.
With just under a minute remaining in the game Edge would attempt a onside kick that would go off the hands of a Haymaker player and roll into the end zone where Kaylon Price would fall on top of it for a touchdown sealing the game up for the Haymakers.
Andre Brown would end the game going 12-18 with 3 touchdown passes and an interception, while Lewis lead the Edge with 5 catches for 60 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Edge return to Bloomington for the final two regular season home games, starting next week with the Kansas City Renegades coming to U.S. Cellular Colisium for a 7:05 p.m. start time.
