
Lasers clinch Western Conference, host playoffs Friday

The Springfield Lasers are pleased to announce that Springfield will be the host city for the Advanta World TeamTennis Pro League Western Conference Championship at 7:05 p.m., Friday, July 24, at Mediacom Stadium at Cooper Tennis Complex, 2331 E. Pythian St. The Lasers clinched the Western Conference's top seed, and the rights to host the playoff semifinal match, with their 23-14 win over the New York Buzz last night.
This is the first time that Springfield has hosted an Advanta WTT Pro League Conference Championship in the Lasers' 14-season history. The winner of the match, which will feature the Lasers and a yet-to-be-determined Western Conference #2 seed, will advance to the Advanta WTT Championship Finals to be held in Washington, D.C., at 5 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, July 26. The Lasers were finalists for the WTT Championship in 1999 and 2001.
