Larue and Dickert Named GBL Spalding Players of the Week

(Dublin, CA. June 25, 2007) The Golden Baseball League announced 3B Jeff Larue of the Long Beach Armada and RHP Reed Dickert of the Orange County Flyers have been named Player and Pitcher of Week Two. Sponsored by Spalding Baseball, these weekly awards recognize the most outstanding players in the league each week.
Jeff Larue, the Long Beach Armada 3rd baseman, was selected based on his outstanding offensive performance during the week. He led the GBL in home runs and slugging average, was second in RBIs and runs scored during the week, and hit at a .409 clip. His offense was instrumental in the Armada putting together a 5-game winning streak to climb back within a game of first place. The 26 year old, out of Washington State University, is in his third season with the Armada and is following up on his 2006 GBL All-Star year where we was amongst the lead leaders in most offensive categories
Reed Dickert, the Orange County Flyers right-handed starting pitcher, was selected based on his two dominating starts during the week. In twelve innings pitched, Dickert struck out 21 while walking only six as he went 1-0 with an 0.71 E.R.A during the week. The hard-throwing 22 year old, out of Oklahoma City University, joined the Flyers late last season and was spectacular in 11 relief appearances at he went 1-0 with a 1.40 E.R.A while striking out 20 in 19 innings. This season he has moved to the starting rotation and has been just as impressive.

The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway Inc./VONS, is a professional baseball league operating in the western U.S. Golden Baseball League teams include the Chico Outlaws in Chico; CA, the Orange County Flyers in Fullerton; CA, the Long Beach Armada in Long Beach; CA, the St. George Roadrunners in St. George, UT; the Yuma Scorpions in Yuma, AZ; and the Reno Silver Sox in Reno, NV. The season runs from early June to the end of August. Over 40 GBL players have had their contract purchased by Major League organizations in the last two years.
