HARLINGEN, Texas - Jeremy Schultz pitched four scoreless innings Monday afternoon to lead the Laredo Broncos to a 4-1 victory over the Harlingen WhiteWings in Texas Winter League play.

Jeremy Schultz (1-0) gave up only two hits and walked one, while striking out two to help the Broncos (3-4) win their second straight. Schultz threw 51 pitches in his four innings of work, 35 of them for strikes.

Trey Fury, in his first pitching appearance of the Texas Winter League, went the last three innings to pick up the save for the Broncos. During Fury's three innings of work, he allowed four hits and one run, but did not allow a walk. Fury pitched out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings, as the WhiteWings left nine runners on base in the game.

Harlingen starter Todd Lutz (1-1) took the hard luck loss for the WhiteWings, going six strong innings. Lutz allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out eight in his second start of the Texas Winter League. Both runs scored in the fourth inning on a Carlos De La Rosa soft single to right, and a throwing error by catcher Ryan Kottke.

The WhiteWings were held to seven hits. Their best scoring chance was in the sixth after Pat Isoz singled home their first run. But Fury, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, struck out Tim Gerwing with runners at second and third to end the rally.

The Broncos added two runs in the seventh off reliever Brad Kirsch. Andrew Revall and Josh Ashton had RBI singles.

Harlingen dropped its third game in the last four, after starting the Winter League at 3-0. Laredo has won three of its last four, after the arrival of manager Papo Davila.

The schedule for Tuesday: Laredo vs. Edinburg at 11 a.m., and Brownsville vs. Harlingen at 3:30 p.m.
