Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks announced that veteran left wing Tab Lardner will return to bolster the team's offense in the 2009-10 season. Per team policy, details were not disclosed.

Lardner (5-11, 180 lbs) has led the Icehawks both on-and-off the ice during the last two seasons in Port Huron, averaging just over a point per game with 146 points (76g, 60a) in 145 contests and serving as assistant captain in his first season and captain last season.

The winger has earned numerous accolades while with the Icehawks. He was named International Hockey League Outstanding Defensive Forward in the 2008-09 season with 65 points (37g, 28a) and a +14 rating in 74 regular season games and seven points (3g, 4a) in six playoff games.

In the 2007-08 season, the 29-year old native of Edmonton, Alberta tallied career bests in goals (39), assists (42) and points (81) and was named to the IHL First Team All-Stars.

"I have played for almost ten years and have never been treated as well by ownership, coaching staff and fans as I am in Port Huron," Lardner said. "The team is committed to winning and I know every year that we will have a great shot at winning the whole thing."

He added, "The league is expanding and allowing for growth. Even though it is a small market, I know that the fans are behind us every step of the way."

A nine-year professional, Lardner enjoyed successful runs with numerous teams in the Central Hockey League before coming to Port Huron. Overall, he has racked up 414 points (194g, 220a) in 523 career games.

"Tab is a great leader for us, on and off the ice. To bring back your captain and a guy that plays with the passion he does is great for us," Head Coach and General Manager Stan Drulia said. "He is a fierce competitor with a strong desire to win. Having players like Tab who want to return to Port Huron keeps this team on the right track."
