Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski VA - Two games were remaining on the schedule when the Pulaski Mariners and the Kingsport Mets hit the field for Friday night's game at Calfee Park. There may have been high school football going on tonight, but that didn't stop 721 fans from coming out to witness Jordy Lara put on an offensive showcase. Lara dropped two long homeruns to both left and right field that were a big part of the Mariners 12-4 win.

With the game scoreless going into the third inning, the Mets scored twice in the top half to give them a brief 2-0 lead. The Mariners answered right back in the bottom half tallying four runs, largely due to the two errors committed by the Mets throughout the inning, to take the lead 4-2.

The Mets managed to manufacture a run in the top of the fourth to bring the Mariner lead to one, but Jordy Lara swung the momentum back in Pulaski's favor blasting his first of two homeruns in the game over the right field wall to raise the lead to 5-3.

The bottom fell off for the Mets in the seventh. After Kingsport went three up/three down in the top half, the Mariners struck for five runs in the bottom half to blow the game open. Jean Acevedo nailed a bases loaded 2 RBI single that scored Frankie Christian and Dillon Hazlett. That was followed by Jordy Lara's second homer of the night. The Mariner first baseman showed power to both fields, hitting this one well over the fence in left field for his seventh dinger of the year to give the Mariners a 10-3 lead.

After the Mets scored once in the top of the eighth inning, the Mariners added two insurance runs in the bottom half to bring the score to 12-4. That would end up being the final as the Mets didn't put up much of a fight in the top of the ninth, giving the Mariners the convincing victory 12-4.

Ambioris Hildalgo pitched a great game on the mound to start the game for the Mariners going four and a third inning and allowing three runs, but it was Reynaldo Sabala (1-2) who was given the win for his two and two thirds innings of work. Sabala allowed no runs, one hit, and struck out three batters along the way.

Miller Diaz (1-1) was hit with the loss going deep in the ballgame. He allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out three over his six innings of work.

For the Mariners, tomorrow marks their final home game of the year. It will be jersey night at Calfee Park. Any persons who wear an sports jersey to the game will receive a dollar off discount to any reserve or general admission ticket. Come out and support your Pulaski Mariners for the final time in their 2011 season.
