Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
The Lake Charles LandSharks won their first-ever playoff game beating the Houma Bayou Bucks 44-19. The LandSharks came out fired up and played with intensity the entire game. The LandSharks' 17-6 halftime lead was cut to 17-13 on Houma's opening possession of the second half. The LandSharks answered and never looked back as they advanced to the Conference Finals and sent the Bucks back to Houma. The LandSharks' win avenged their only two losses of the season, both to the Bucks.
LandSharks' RB David Winbush led the team offensively finishing with five of the LandSharks' six touchdowns. Safety Warren St. Junious and CB Anthony Porter each had two interceptions as the Sharks' defense played another exceptional game. "I know Houma played without QB Herb Tyler and RB Michael Burks tonight, but I don't believe the outcome would have been any different," said Sharks' head coach Kip Texada. "We came to play tonight and it didn't matter who we were playing against. Houma is a very good team and Coach Phillips did a great job turning them around. I have nothing but respect for the Bucks."
Coach Texada and the LandSharks must now turn their attention to the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. The Greyhounds are unbeaten this season and are the defending NIFL Champions. "There was no doubt throughout the season that the Greyhounds were the team to beat," said Texada. "I have seen them on film and they are physical. They have a lot of experience and will capitalize on your mistakes. We have to play our best game of the season."
The LandSharks will leave Lake Charles Thursday at noon. They will bus to New Orleans, fly to Pittsburgh, and arrive in Wheeling Thursday night. The LandSharks will return to Lake Charles on Saturday.
The LandSharks are putting together a fan bus to travel to Wheeling, West Virginia. If you are interested in helping support the LandSharks in Wheeling as they take on the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, call Corey at (337) 477-3467 for details.
The LandSharks have submitted dates for the 2004 NIFL season and season tickets are now on sale. To order season tickets, call (337) 477-3467 or (888) 422-9682. Season tickets can also be purchased online at www.landsharksfootball.com.
