Lancers Weekend Features a Pair of Matches

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (5-7) will play a pair of games this weekend beginning on Saturday, January 24 when they travel to take on the Baltimore Blast (12-0) in a 6:05 p.m. kickoff. The club will follow up Saturday's match with a home match against the Syracuse Silver Knights (7-6) on Sunday, January 25 at 4:00 p.m.
On Saturday the Lancers will take on the undefeated Blast who lead the Eastern Division by six games and have already clinched a postseason berth. It marks the first time this season the two teams have met in Baltimore, with the lone matchup coming on December 27th in Rochester. The Lancers will be looking to be the first MASL squad to knock off the Blast this season. The third place Lancers will be looking for their first-ever victory over Baltimore.
On Sunday, Rochester welcomes their I-90 rival, Syracuse Silver Knights to the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena. It marks the fifth time the two sides have played this season with the Knights holding a 3-1 advantage in the four matches played already. The Syracuse and Rochester rivalry has taken on a new dimension in the last two meetings as in each match the Lancers and Knights have battled their way through two contests that were decided in the waning moments of the match. Now the highly competitive, intensely battled matches move west to Rochester for Sunday's 4:00 p.m. start.
The recent intensity displayed in the last two matches will certainly take on new meaning as in addition to Sunday's score, the match against Syracuse has playoff implications. With the top three teams in each division heading to the playoffs, The Lancers lead fourth place Detroit by 2.5 games and trail second-place Syracuse by two games in the race for the postseason.
The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a free Lancers jersey koozie as well as a free mustache in honor of mustache mania.
In celebration of this weekend's Futbol Fever, all fans attending the game in their favorite football jersey, will be entered for the chance to win a free catered party by Salvatore's Pizza for the big game on February 1st! ROCHESTER NATIVE LOU GRAMM TO SING NATIONAL ANTHEM
Lou Gramm, a Rochester native and former front man for the rock group Foreigner, will sing the National Anthem prior to the Lancers game when they return home on January 25 at the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena to face the Syracuse Silver Knights. Gramm will be signing copies of his book, Juke Box Hero: My Five Decades in Rock and Roll in the main lobby of the arena from 3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. as well as serve as honorary captain before the start of the game.
Gramm's hits as lead singer for Foreigner include "Waiting for a Girl Like You", which in 1982 spent ten weeks at number 2 on the American Top 100 list and "I Want to Know What Love Is" which went number one internationally. The songs were part of the group's 1978 album Hot Blooded that saw the first eight singles reach the Billboard Top 20, a feat that at the time had only been accomplished by the Beatles.
Some of Gramm's solo hits include "Midnight Blue", "Say You Will" and "I Don't Want to Live Without You" which reached number 6 in 1988.
