Rochester Lancers News Release

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers today announced the 1970 NASL Championship banner will be unveiled at the Blue Cross Arena Sunday. To honor the only championship in Lancers history, original Lancers players were invited for the pre-game unveiling at 2:45pm.

The 1970 Lancers team defeated the Washington Darts in a goal-aggregate series. That year, the NASL awarded Head Coach Sal DeRosa the Coach of the Year honor and Lancers forward Carlos Metidieri was named NASL MVP.

"A lot of what we do as an organization directly relates to the original Lancers," said Rich Randall, Lancers Vice President. "This is another great opportunity for fans of today to appreciate what the Lancers achieved for this community in the past. We are proud to represent that logo and what it means to Rochester still to this day."

The banner will be a fixture in the Blue Cross Arena for many years to come.

Immediately following the Lancers final home game this Sunday, a game-worn jersey raffle will take place in the lobby of the Blue Cross Arena. Proceeds will benefit Foodlink in honor of the late Tom Ferraro, who recently passed away. All current players will participate and all fans are encouraged to attend. Cash, check, or credit card may be used for purchase.

The Rochester Lancers host second place Baltimore Blast (13-3) Sunday, February 23 at 3pm at the Blue Cross Arena for the final home game of the season. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free team photo. Lancers title sponsor, Dick Ide Family of Dealerships, will be giving away a car at halftime to one lucky fan. Fans can get free Mohawks, courtesy of SportClips. Kids 12 and under are FREE! To order tickets, or for more information, visit www.rlancers.com.
