Rochester Lancers News Release
(Rochester, NY) - For the second time in six days the Rochester Lancers played host to the Harrisburg Heat. Rochester continued their dominance over Harrisburg, sweeping the season series, by following up Saturday's win with a franchise high 33 points in a 33-5 win on Thursday. The Lancers record setting offense was matched by a stifling defense that only allowed two goals. Offensively Rochester was propelled by a four goal performance by Joey Tavernese (8 points) as well as a hat-trick from Mauricio Salles (7 points) and two-goal night by Enrique (6 points). In addition, forwards Jeremy Ortiz and Andrew Hoxie each contributed three assists in the effort.
After three straight wins over Harrisburg in which the outcome was never really in doubt, the Lancers began the fourth and final meeting of the season in much the same way. Making his return to the lineup Edgar Bartolomeu tallied his first goal of the season giving Rochester an early 2-0 lead. After Harrisburg's Chris Hall tied it Rochester tallied three consecutive goals to end the quarter. Goals by Gary Boughton, Ortiz and Yaikel Perez gave the Lancers four different first quarter scorers en route to an 8-2 lead after the first fifteen minutes of play.
While the second quarter was low scoring, producing only two goals, both were tallied by Rochester. Joey Tavernese found the net twice in the span of just over a minute to increase the Lancer advantage. Including the opening quarter five unanswered goals by Rochester upped their lead to 12-2 at the break.
Looking to get back in the game, Harrisburg drew first blood to open the second half. Val Teixeria hit from beyond the three point arc to cut the Lancer lead to 12-5. The goal could not produce any momentum for the visitors however as much like they have in previous meetings, Rochester responded. Andrew Hoxie got the second half scoring underway, tallying his lone goal of the game for the Lancers, followed by goals by Salles, a three-point tally by Enrique and a hat trick by Tavernese to close out the quarter.
Rochester didn't let up during the fourth quarter, continuing their offensive barrage, producing five goals and twelve points. Salles began the quarter with a two-pointer and ended it with a three. In between the Lancers Enrique notched his second of the game, Tavernese, his fourth and the first of his career for Rochester native and Gates-Chili grad, Sean Hantes.
With the win the Lancers improve to 9-9 on the season and will return to action Sunday, February 22 at Syracuse before closing out the regular season at home against the Baltimore Blast on Sunday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m.
