Lancers 2012-13 Player Awards Announced

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers today announced the 2012-13 season player awards. The awards are given at the conclusion of the regular season to recognize players for their standout performances both on and off the field. They are determined by a team vote:

Team MVP: Doug Miller - Presented by the Dick Ide Family of Dealerships

Miller finished the season atop the MISL in scoring and total points. With 44 goals and 102 total points, he led the league in both categories. He was named the MISL Player of the Month for the month of December, twice named MISL Player of the Week, and named to the MISL Team of the Week five times. His six-goal effort against Missouri tied an MISL single game scoring record.

Offensive Player of the Year: Mauricio Salles - Presented by ESL Federal Credit Union

Salles finished second overall in MISL scoring with 34 goals and 97 total points. He led all players in three-point goals, with nine on the season. He was named to the MISL Team of the Week four times.

Defensive Player of the Year: Jake Schindler - Presented by SmugtownBeacon.com

In just his second season, Rochester native Schindler became the anchor in the back for the Lancers. His consistency and work ethic propelled him to the top of the league as a defender. Playing all 25 games this season, Schindler led all Lancers players with 33 blocks.

Community Service Award: Elliot Fauske - Presented by Bernie Iacovangelo and Faber Homes

This award is given to the player that best exemplifies character and dedication to the community. Fauske led the team in local appearances and charitable events.

Rookie of the Year: "Pedrinho" (Pedro Franco) - Presented by Isaac Heating and Air Conditioning

Recruited at the MISL combine by Lancers GM, Soccer Sam Fantauzzo, Pedrinho soon became a staple in the Lancers lineup. Playing in 23 games this season, Pedrinho finished with 13 total points as a defender. In just his first season, the Brazilian showed his confidence and creative ball control on offense and defense.

The Rochester Lancers await their playoff destiny. For the Lancers to make the playoffs, Syracuse needs to defeat Chicago tonight at 830pm ET and Milwaukee to defeat Syracuse tomorrow night at 7pm ET. Upon reaching the playoffs, the Lancers would host the first game Tuesday, March 5 at 7pm on the Christopher J. Wilmot Field at the Blue Cross Arena. Two for Tuesday! All seats will be 2 for 1.
