Lancaster gets the Clean Sweep over the San Jose Giants

(SAN JOSE, CA) - Jessie English for the San Jose Giants (41-26) held the JetHawks (34-33) scoreless through his five innings on the hill, but for the third time in the series the JetHawks got to the Giants bullpen. The JetHawks will be no less than one game in front of the Lakes Elsinore Storm with three games to play in the first half as the Lancaster grabs the 8-4 victory and the series sweep Thursday afternoon in San Jose. The winner of the first half receives an automatic bid into the playoffs and a first-round bye.
San Jose got the scoring started when Matt Downs singled to open the fourth. Tyler Graham followed with a bunt single. A sacrifice bunt by Giants Bobby Femly put runners at second and third with one out. Pablo Sandoval followed with a ground out scoring Downs. Chris Jones buckled down and got Ryan Rolhinger to end the inning with a pop out to short.
Down 1-0 going into the eighth, Lancaster send 11 men to the plate, scoring seven runs taking a lead they never relinquished. Jorge Jimenez opened with a single, walks to Jon Still and Dennis Blackmon loaded the bases for Lancaster. Aaron Reza slapped the first pitcher he saw back up the middle to tie the game. Argenis Diaz followed with a single of his own and Lancaster took their first lead of the afternoon. The big shot of the inning came one batter later. Jason Place hit the fist ball he saw over the left-field fence for his first grand slam of the season. All the runs in the frame came across with two outs in the inning.
San Jose scored three in the bottom of the eighth to get within three, but Bryce Cox retired Ryan Rohlinger with two runners on, ending the threat.
Josh Reddick capped the scoring for Lancaster; the right fielder hit a solo shot in the ninth for his 12th home run of the season.
Chris Jones (4-4) worked seven strong innings for Lancaster for the win; his record is now 4-4. The right hander struck out five while only allowing one run on three hits. Bryce Cox worked a shaky two frames for the JetHawks. Dan Griffin suffered to the loss for the Giants.
Lars Anderson finished the game going 1-for-4 and has now hit in 15 straight for Lancaster.
The JetHawks take to the road for the final road trip of the first-half. The six game road trip continues this Friday night as the JetHawks play in the first game of a three-game set vs. the Visalia Oaks. Lancaster will send right-handed pitcher Travis Beazley (3-7) to the mound. The Oaks counter with right-handed pitcher Wes Roemer (3-5). The game begins at 7:05 PM.
