Adirondack Phantoms News Release
CLEVELAND - After benefiting from stellar goaltending in their last two contests, the Philadelphia Phantoms this time were victims of outstanding netminding in a 2-1 loss to the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday night in the first ever meeting between the teams. The Phantoms more than doubled up the Monsters in shots at 46-21, but Lake Erie goaltender Tyler Weiman denied all but one bid in earning first star honors.
Phantoms goaltender Brian Boucher turned in another outstanding outing, but faced two of a goaltender's biggest enemies in a breakaway and a screened goal. Lake Erie's Matt Hussey had the solo act, which opened the scoring at 9:32 of the second period. Fed at center ice by former Phantom Brent Kelly, Hussey walked in alone and beat Boucher for the 1-0 lead. The goal snapped the Philadelphia goalie's shutout streak at 163:21, after shutouts in each of his last two appearances.
Philadelphia leveled the game at 10:18 of the third period with a power play tally off the stick of Kyle Greentree. He went down low with the puck and made a wraparound attempt that Weiman stopped, but Greentree jammed home his own rebound. But the Monsters responded just 72 seconds later when Jeff Jillson fired the game-winner past the glove side of a screened Boucher.
The loss was just the second road setback of the season for the Phantoms and puts the team's record at 16-5-1 for 33 points.
