
Lake County Drops Game One 4-3

Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - Yeison Asencio had two RBI's and the go-ahead single in the eighth inning as The Fort Wayne Tincaps defeated the Lake County Captains 4-3 in Parkview Field. Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double to left field and then was sacrificed to third base. With the runner on third and one out, Asencio singled home the winning run.
Lake County scored in the first inning, Jose Ramirez hit the second pitch of the ballgame over the right field wall for a homerun. The round-tripper was the first of the post season for the Captains and the fourth overall for Ramirez. It was 1-0 Captains.
In the bottom of the first inning, Jace Peterson hit a double and scored on a double by Yeison Asencio. The Ballgame was tied. With two outs and two runners on base Duanel Jones hit a high fly ball to right field that Jordan Smith lost in the sun. The ball fell to the turf and both runners scored. Jones wound up at second and the Tincaps led 3-1.
In the fifth inning, Joey Wendle walked and moved to second on a single by Todd Hankins and scored on a single by Francisco Lindor. Lindor's night wasn't over. He tied the ballgame in the top of the eighth inning with his first homerun of the post season and the score was even at 3-3 headed to the bottom of the eighth.
LHP Shawn Morimando (0-0) started the game for the Captains and did not get the decision. Morimando pitched five innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, three walks, and he fanned two. Danny Jimenez (0-1) took the loss after pitching three innings, allowing just two hits, one earned run, and three strikeouts.
LHP Frank Garces (0-0) got the nod for the Tincaps and did not get the decision. Garces pitched six innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, two walks and six strikeouts. Garces allowed the homer to Ramirez. Johnny Barbato pitched one and one third inning allowing the game tying homerun to Francisco Lindor. Brandon Alger (1-0) got the win after pitching two thirds of an inning and fanning two. Matt Stites earned his third save of the post season after striking out the side in the ninth. The final eight outs that were recorded by Fort Wayne pitchers were all strikeouts.
Game two of the three game series will be on Sunday Night at Classic Park. Lake County will end LHP Elvis Araujo (7-10, 5.00) to the mound to face RHP Erik Cabrera (2-2, 3.33) for Fort Wayne. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
