TUESDAY JULY 18, 2006[TORONTO, ON] The Lady Lynx enter the final week of the 2006 W-League regular season sitting solidly in second place in the Northern Division of the W-League and look certain to clinch a playoff spot. The week kicks off tomorrow with a matinee at 12:00 PM as the Lady Lynx host their annual Youth Day at Centennial Park Stadium, featuring an exhibition match for an expected crowd of over 4,000 youths from local soccer clubs, summer camps and recreational programs. Toronto will be debuting their special third jerseys during the match, which will then be auctioned off during Sunday afternoon's final home match against Ottawa, set for a 6:00 PM kickoff. The Lady Lynx expect to have a full roster for the match on Sunday, against the first-place Ottawa Fury, with Amanda Cicchini, Loredana Riverso and Vonya Beckles returning from the U20 National Team camp in B.C. Deana Everrett is still questionable, however, with an injury suffered on July 3 in Rochester.
The Lady Lynx have clinched at least a tie for second place in the division this season. If the Fury beat the Laval Comets tomorrow evening at home, the Lady Lynx will attain second place and a W-League Northern Division playoff berth. The most likely playoff scenario for the Lady Lynx will be a road match next Wednesday evening in Ottawa with a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals tournament on the line. Full details will be issued as soon as they are confirmed with the league.
LYNX OFF TO ROCHESTER
The Lynx men head across Lake Ontario on Friday evening to visit the sparkling new PAETEC Park in Rochester for a match against the Raging Rhinos. The match, kicking off at 7:35 PM is the second of four meetings between the two rivals, with Rochester having taken the first meeting 2-0 on May 13 at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto. Toronto has been on a torrid pace lately, winning 3 of their last 4 matches to move into an 11th place tie with Minnesota in the USL First Division table, with 11 points. Rochester currently sits in third place, with 27 points from 15 matches. Toronto will be missing a host of regulars in the match however, due to injury. Forward Jeremy Shepherd suffered a broken leg in the Lynx' 1-0 win over Atlanta on Sunday evening and will miss the remainder of the year. Midfielder Joe Mattacchione was injured in Montreal last Tuesday and will miss the match. David DiPlacido and Tony Menezes remain questionable due to lingering injuries. The club will also be missing defender Chris Williams and forward Matt Palleschi who have secured trials in Europe.
LYNX AT ONTARIO PLACE SPORTS WEEK EVENT THIS WEEKEND
The Toronto Lynx will be a part of the annual Ontario Place Sports Week this upcoming weekend Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23rd from 11:00 -4:00. Fans will be able to meet Lynx players for a Greet and Meet session, in addition to witnessing a soccer skills demo and taking part in soccer skills contests with lots of prizes and giveaways.
